Spin Falls Short

I am hesitant to add to my voice to the news today.  Since beginning this blog I have decided that the only topics worth writing about are the ones that I find happily entertaining.  The business of government is a very serious thing, of course, but politics is so full of characters and illusions that the business of courting votes and public approval is usually very amusing, and to me, worth writing about.  But as much as sound bites and photo-opps can be professionally tuned to orchestrate a perfect political ego, this image is unfortunately dependent on the co-operation of reality. Events leave a stronger impression then photographs, and how a person acts in a few unpredictable moments might be uncomfortably telling of a politicians...

Alberta Puts Its Neck in the Sun

Jeff Willerton This morning I did something I hoped I would never be reduced to. I actually bought and paid for a copy of MacLean‘s.  It’s mortifying to admit and I know what you all must be thinking, I mean…  if you’re in the denist office, yes, it’s just sitting there, and maybe if you’re in the checkout line at the grocery store, or you can always just flip through it and say you’re interested in looking at the outfits, but to buy the magazine, take it home and read it… well that means you are truly a victim of our generation’s  sensationalized culture of superficiality. Putin’s Moobs

After seeing this picture, I am quite comfortable admitting that my shreddies hit the wall… hard. Which was interesting considering that the milk dripped out of my nose so slowly. I can almost hear the voice of Katherine Hepburn in the Lion in Winter. “I dressed my maids as Amazons and rode bare-breasted halfway to Damascus. Louis had a seizure and I damn near died of windburn… but the troops were dazzled!!!” Margaret Wente argues in yesterday’s globe that “a little political beefcake couldn’t hurt” in Canada....

Me, I’m really not. Here is the link to the new Tory attack ads. http://www.thestar.com/videozone/633755 I love attack ads, particularly Tory attack ads. I particularly like in this one how instead of picking the standard, droopy pictures of Ignatieff, they instead choose the ones where he looks pretty gay. You know, like the kind of guy who drink espresso and likes French French more than Quebec French. Compare this to a man like Harper, whose manly beer bloat and preference for Tim Hortons scream of warm, hard, Alberta balls. The kind of balls that are so true to the Canadian spirit, that not only do they detest European French, they hardly speak any kind of French at all. Seriously, I’m kind of tired of the whole...
